KABUL on Wednesday vehemently denied participating in last week’s meeting in Dubai to explore avenues of making peace with the government of President Hamid Karzai.
A former Taliban finance minister, Mutasim Agha Jan, last week told Pajhwok Afghan News that they had met on the peace process in Dubai. He said ex-Taliban ministers, diplomats and military commanders attended the meeting.
But in a statement, the insurgent movement denied participation in the meeting. “We once again announce that Mutasim Agha Jan has no role (in the movement) and he cannot represent us.”
The Taliban said that Agha Jan’s activities, which promoted foreigners’ interests, were not in line with the movement’s policy.
