KABUL could not substantiate Islamabad’s claim that 23 Pakistani Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel had been killed inside Afghan territory, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said.

On February 17, a faction of the Pakistani Taliban’s Mohmand chapter said the Pakistani soldiers were killed in retaliation for continued security operations.

In a statement, the ministry confirmed Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz had conveyed a  protest to Foreign Minister Zarar Ahmad Osmani in the Maldives, where they were attending a SAARC meeting.

Osmani told Aziz Kabul could not verify whether the FC soldiers were killed on Afghan soil. “We categorically condemn the scourge of terrorism wherever it takes place,” Osmani added.

The statement said the Afghan government would take every possible step to investigate and divulge the facts in this regard.

Aziz reminded Osmani of a recent agreement in Ankara that both sides would prevent the use of their territory against each other and take action against militants.
