Women among 4 killed by Taliban-fired mortar
KABUL (Pajhwok): Four civilians, including two women, have been killed by a Taliban-fired mortar in the Nawzad district of southern Helmand province, the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) said on Saturday.
The fatalities happened on Thursday when the insurgents tried to hit a Civil Order Police checkpoint following a gun-battle in the Jazi area of the district. But the mortar fell inside a house, killing four people, including two women.
Extending his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, Helmand Governor Muhammad Naeem strongly denounced the attack as a cowardly act. He prayed to Allah to rest the departed souls in eternal peace and grant fortitude to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable loss.
