President delays Sri Lanka trip
KABUL (Pajhwok): Delaying his visit to Sri Lanka following a deadly attack in Kunar province, President Hamid Karzai on Sunday called mass killings on both sides of the Durand Line a matter of serious concern.
At least 20 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed and eight others kidnapped early Sunday morning when hundreds of militants stormed their check-post in Ghaziabad district.
In a statement from the Presidential Palace, Karzai condemned the ANA soldiers’ killing as a terrorist act. “These brave soldiers have sacrificed their lives to defend their homeland,” the president added.
“Such attacks on both sides of the Durand Line pose a serious challenge for Afghanistan and Pakistan,” the president said, adding both countries should fight together against the scourge of terrorism.
Karzai directed his defence minister to launch a thorough probe into the Kunar incident and submit a report.
