KABUL (Pajhwok): Presidential contender Hedayat Amin Arsala on Monday said he had entered an alliance with Gul Agha Sherzai, but the move did not mean he had pulled out of the presidential race.
Addressing a press conference in Kabul, Arsala dismissed rumours about his withdrawal from the electoral fray as baseless. “I am not going to quit in favour of anyone.”
The aim of alliance was to ensure fair election and honest services to the people, Arsala said, adding that a number of candidates would join their group in the near future.
Answering a question about the alliance’s to support to a single candidate, Arsala said they would decide on the issue later.
Without naming anyone, he said: “Recently there has been a flurry of meetings to assign this authority to a single family or tribe. But such an act will increase the gap between public and the candidates.”
He asked people vote for a runner who had a good background and was committed to serving the nation and steering the country out of the current crisis.
Three days back, Sherzai also rejected reports about his withdrawal in favour of Zalmai Rassoul.
