Mujahidin’s role holds key to peace: Abdullah

KABUL (Pajhwok): Presidential contender Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Wednesday promised giving former jihadis a leading role in bringing peace and stability to the country, if he wins the April 5 polls.

Addressing a campaign rally in Desabz district of Kabul, the former foreign minister said Mujahidin could play a highly significant role in making the reconciliation drive a sucess, but the incumbent government had ignored their vital role.

Muhammad Muhaqiq, Abdullah’s second vice-presidential candidate, lamented peace could not be acheived with foreign aid and investment because Mujahidin had been pushed to the wall.

Eng. Mohammad Khan, Abdullah first running mate, said people should support their camp for the sake reforms. He claimed they had a leading role during the jihad era and offered greater sacrifices for the country.

The gathering was organized by Allah Gul Mujahid, a parliamentarian representing Kabul. After consultations, Mujahid said they had come to the conclusion to support Abdullah in the polls due on April 5.
