LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Five civilians were killed and nine others wounded on Friday when a bomb-rigged motorcycle ripped through a weekly bazaar in southern Helmand province, an official said.

The explosion in Marja district took place as a large number of people were busy shopping at the weekly Friday bazaar in the Camp area near the district headquarters, said Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman.

But officials at the Emergency-run hospital in Lashkargah, the provincial capital, said they had been delivered 11 wounded people from the scene.

The injured included half a dozen children aged between 12 and 14 years. Some of the injured are said to be in critical condition.

An official said the blast was of high intensity but he had no further details.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the blast till filing of this report.
