FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Election officials said on Wednesday they would request the Afghan Air Force (AAF) for airlifting election materials to 70 polling stations in case of road blockades in northeastern Badakhshan province.

They said the materials would be flown to 11 districts if roads there were closed due to bad weather or insecurity.

Governor Dr. Shah Waliullah Adib also said ISAF helicopters were used to transfer election materials to the province in the previous elections and this time around, they would seek the AAF’s help if needed.

But Nawroz Mohammad Haidari, the Yamgan district chief, warned election workers could come under attack from insurgents if they tried to transfer materials by roads to Jurm, Yangan and Kiran-wa-Minjan districts.

“Residents will participate in the elections, although voter registration cards have not been fully distributed,” said Syed Ghafoor, a resident of Yamgan district.
