KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Pakistan scholarships for students from southern Kandahar province.

Pakistani Consul General Farmanullah Yousafzai held out the promise at a meeting with Governor Toryalai Weesa in Kandahar City.

The scholarships would enable students from the province to receive education at different institutes in the neighbouring country, the diplomat said. The provincial government would select students for the scholarships.

Yousafzai said Pakistan would try to launch work on a long-delayed railroad between the Chaman city of Balochistan and Kandahar. The project was designed in 2006.

Governor Weesa said true friendship between the neighbours was central to durable peace in Afghanistan and the region at large. The railway line project, when implemented, would boost bilateral trade, he hoped.
