KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghan panel reviewing cases of Bagram prisoners in central Parwan province on Thursday released 55 more inmates, including 40 detained by British forces in southern Helmand province.
Abdul Shakoor Dadras, a member of the panel, told a press conference in Kabul that of the inmates freed, 15 had denied any connection with insurgents and had been demanding justice from the government.
He said the 40 inmates, who had been arrested by British forces, were freed because there was no incriminating evidence against them. Dadras said cases of another 48 prisoners were being investigated.
The releases come a month after the Attorney General Office ordered the release of 65 prisoners from the jail despite strong opposition from the US.
