GARDEZ (Pajhwok): The Zazai Aryub district chief on Thursday accused the Paktia governor’s guards of beating him for refusing to grease their palms.

Abdur Rahman told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Hashmatullah Yousafi, in charge of the governor’s house, has asked me for $8,000 in bribe.”

Following his refusal to meet the illicit demand, Yousafi ordered the gubernatorial guards to thrash him, the district chief alleged. Yousafi could not be contacted despite repeated efforts by this scribe.

But the governor’s spokesman, Roohullah Samoon, rejected the district head’s allegation as baseless. He said Rahman was not qualified enough to be a district chief.
