Religious scholars vow support to Rassoul

KABUL (Pajhwok): Demanding greater say in government’s affairs, religious scholars who gathered in Kabul on Wednesday announced support to presidential candidate Zalmai Rassoul in the April 5 polls.

Speaking on the occasion, Maulvi guided people into choosing the right path and they could encourage them into participating in the upcoming elections.

The former official during Taliban’s regime said they wanted a kind of system where religious scholars had a vital role to play.

Qayamuddin said Dr. Rassoul team had promised establishing standard seminaries and upgrading the existing ones

In his address, Rassoul, a former foreign minister, said he regarded mosques as places of spiritual and social reforms and promised to economically support ulema if won the elections.

Ahmad Zia Massoud, Rassoul’s first-vice presidential candidate, said Afghanistan in this regard.

Massoud said every government in Afghanistan which lacked ulema support had failed to deliver.
