KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): A suicide bomber attacked spectators of a Buzkashi competition in northern Kunduz province on Tuesday, killing five civilians and wounding 20 others.
Afghan National Coordination Centre Commander Gen. Bashir Basharat was among the injured, Kunduz police chief, Brig. Gen. Ghulam Mustafa Mohseni, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Former jihad commander Mir Alam Khan was the apparent target, but he escaped unhurt in the attack, which happened at about 5.00pm. Alam has been a former police chief for the province
The casualties were evacuated to the Reporters Without Borders Hospital in Kunduz City, the provincial capital. He said people had entered the stadium without being searched.
But eyewitness Asadullah claimed seeing two dead bodies and four injured people lying at the site. The bomber struck when people were leaving the ground.
