NEILI (Pajhwok): Despite a massive increase in the number of students last fall, 220 schools in central Daikundi province continue to be without buildings, officials said on Wednesday.

Education, indicating growing enthusiasm among people for education.

Education Director Mohammad Raza Ada told Pajhwok Afghan News lack of professional teachers remained the key challenge in Daikundi.

As many as 3,100 teachers, including 1,500 hired on a contractual basis, are posted at 373 schools across the province. He said they faced a shortage of 1.4 million textbooks.

Governor Abdul Haq Shafaq said the people of Daikundi loved to see their children going to school. He pledged all possible efforts to facilitate students and promote education.

Provincial council member Hadi Rahimzada said many schools had no buildings and students attended their classes under the open sky.
