FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Fourteen insurgents and two policemen have been killed in a clash in the Khak-i-Safid district of western Farah province, the police chief said.

Brig. Gen. Abdul Razzaq Yaqubi told Pajhwok Afghan News Thursday’s firefight was touched off by Taliban attacks in Ghorchi and Nangabad areas.

He said the fire exchange, lasting seven hours, left 14 militants dead and six others wounded. Two policemen were also killed. Police seized three Kalashnikov assault rifles from the assailants.

Abdul Khaliq Nawrozi, the district chief, said aircraft bombed the rebel positions in the areas in the wake of the assault. He put the number of Taliban fatalities at 12, saying their bodies were still lying at the scene.
