The gunbattle occurred between Lalai and Nawroz, the former and serving police chiefs for Gizab, he said, without elaborating.

However, Lalai said he fought back in self defense. He claimed of purging the district of Taliban who had now personal enmity with him.

He alleged the government now wanted to disarm his men and four of his persons had been detained by the authority.

He said the district chief mounted assault on him the other day in a move to disarm him but he offered resistance and seized three police check posts after the gun battle.

He would resist until a delegation from central government guaranteed of his protection. After repeated attempts, Pajhwok Afghan News could not get version of the serving police chief.
