SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): An illegal armed group has beaten a local Independent Election Commission employee in the Balkhab district of northern Sar-i-Pul province on, Provincial IEC official said on Saturday.

Abdul Rahman Farid, the IEC provincial office head, expressed concern over the incident and told Pajhwok Afghan News the organiser had gone to the district to conduct a workshop.

Sayed Ali, the organiser, was hospitalised with face and head injuries, Farid said, asking the government to punish the perpetrators.

Police chief Maj. Gen. Noor Habib Gulbahari said six people had been arrested in connection with the incident.

Farid warned elections might not take place in Balkhab if the perpetrators were not brought to the provincial capital for interrogations.

The illegal armed people have beaten the IEC employee, because their choices were not given employments in the local polling stations, Farid added.
