4 campaigners of a candidate killed in Paktia
GARDIZ (Pajhwok): Four campaigners of a provincial candidate were killed in a roadside bombing in southeastern Paktia province on Monday, an official said.
One of the victims was the brother of the provincial candidate, Fazal Haq Jailan. The four individuals were killed by a roadside bomb in Shikhan locality of Paktia at around 10am, provincial police chief, Zalmai Orya Khail told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the incident took place when the motorcycles they were raiding hit a roadside bomb.
Orya Khail said that the slain individuals were introduced to the Independent Election Commission (IEC) office to register as election observers.
He directed the security forces to adopt all measures to protect campaigners and election workers from militant attacks. This was the first incident of its kind in the strategically important Paktia province.
Meanwhile, a provincial candidate was abducted by unidentified gunmen in northern Sar-I-Pul province.
