Militants hold 5 civilians hostage in Kandahar

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Militants held five civilians hostage in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Monday.

Dawa Khan Mina Pal, provincial information and culture department spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the detained civilians were collecting firewood when militants abducted them in Ghorak district on Sunday.

He said police and local elders were trying to ensure safe release of the detainees.

Similarly, a month ago, insurgents abducted as many as 12 civilians in Kandahar.
