SHARAN/ KUNAR/ GHAZNI (Pajhwok): Public meetings were held in support of presidential runners Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Dr. Zalmai Rassoul and Hidayat Amin Arsala on Wednesday.

Arsala’s choice for second vice-president, Safia Siddiqui, travelled to eastern Kunar in connection with her election campaign.

Addressing a rally, she urged supporters to cast their votes in favour of Arsala’s team for a prosperous Afghanistaninfo-icon. “I have come to my home province and I ask my brothers to vote for us.”

Hundreds of people from different districts of Kunar announced support to Abdullah. Haji Mian Hassan urged people to back Abdullah, who had the ability to steer the country out of crisis.

Similarly, a large number of people held a mammoth gathering in Sharan, the capital of southeastern Paktika. Khalid Farooqi and his entire Kharoti tribe pledged support to Ahmadzai.

Farooqi said Ahmadzai was a man of principles and international calibre and deserved to head the country amid multiple challenges.

The Wazir tribe chief, Nawab Khan Waziri, claimed Ahmadzai had the ability to ensure progress and prosperity of the country.

In southern Ghazni province, hundreds of people pledged to vote in favour of Ahmadzai in the April 5 elections.

In Asadabad, the capital of Kunar, hundreds of residents said they would cast their votes for Rassoul, who had a brilliant past free of corruption.
