PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The process of dispatching election materials to districts in central Logar province is underway and so far 30 of the 77 polling stations have been delivered the stuff, an official said on Wednesday.

Logar police chief Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the remaining polling sites would be delivered election materials ahead of voting day (Saturday).

The police chief said all security organs would secure the vote in Logar through their joint efforts and coordination, calling on residents to go to polling stations with confidence and vote for their preferred candidates.

“Operations to improve security for the elections are still ongoing. So far several areas have been cleared of the Taliban’s presence. Our forces will remain on their positions until 15 days after the elections.”

Meanwhile, the governor’s spokesman, Din Mohammad Darwesh, told Pajhwok Afghan News that all security organs would take their affairs forward in coordination with each other.

“People should not pay head to the enemy’s propaganda. The elections are inevitable. There should be no fears among people taking part in the polls.”

An opinion poll conducted by Pajhwok shows more people are interested in Saturday’s elections than the previous elections in Logar.

Almost all of 80 people interviewed in the survey said they wanted to vote for the sake of a strong government system, peace and stability.

There are a total of 83 polling centres in Logar, but six of them have been closed due to security threats in Charkh and Barak-i-Barak districts.
