KABUL (Pajhwok): Many Kabul residents interviewed by Pajhwok Afghan News on Thursday said they supported Saturday’s elections and wanted every compatriot to exercise his/her right.

The respondents said Afghans should not ignore the national process and should participate and encourage friends and families to partake in the democratic exercise.

Asadullah, a shopkeeper in Pul-i-Bagh Omomi in downtown Kabul, said he intended to cast his vote at a polling station for a presidential candidate he trusted.

“I want our next president should serve the country, fight our enemies and root out corruption from government offices,” he said.

Fazal Rahim, another Kabul city resident, said elections were part of democracy and he would cast vote to a candidate who believed in democracy and service to the nation. “I will go to a polling site and use my vote even at the expense of my life,” he said.

A hawker Jan Ali said “I will vote for one who can really serve Afghanistan and needs of the poor people.”

Females interviewed by Pajhwok also expressed their interest in the April 5 elections.  A resident of the 4th Macro Rayan residential area, Mursal, said she would vote for a candidate who could address youth’s problems and provide them with education and economic facilities.

“I want to vote for a candidate who can pave the ground for students to have access to education across the country. I have asked all my sisters to use their vote because it is their right.”

Gul Makai, a schoolteacher, said she had made up her mind to cast vote. “I call on all people, particularity women, to use their right and elect someone who they believe is a good Muslim, a patriot, kind to the poor people and able to end corruption.”

Another Kabul dweller, Sabawoon Siddiqui, said the April 5 elections were a historic moment for the Afghans to shape their destiny. He had faith in the Afghan forces to be able to maintain security for the elections.

Ghulam Yahya, an Afghan National Army (ANA) service member in Kabul, said “I have obtained a voter card and will use it for a candidate who is not involved in the bloodshed of Afghans.” He urged the next president to work for the country’s stability.
