KABUL (Pajhwok): Presidential candidates have spent around 54 million afghanis, including 24 million afs received in donations from supporters, on electioneering that ended last night.
Eight presidential hopefuls — Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, Daud Sultanzoi, Eng. Qutbuddin Hilal, Mohammad Shafiq Gul Agha Sherzoy, Prof. Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf and Hedayat Amin Arsala — have been left in the race slated for Saturday.
During the two-month electioneering period, three runners — Abdul Rahim Wardak, Abdul Qayyum Karzai and Mohammad Nadir Naeem — withdrew from the electoral fray.
Under the election law, each presidential candidate can spend up to 10 million afs on campaigning, but it appears they have spent half of the money allowed.
According to the Independent Election Commission (IEC), Sherzai and Hilal have received no financial support from any organisation. The chart below shows campaign costs incurred and financial support received by presidential runners.
