AIBAK/LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Security forces detained on Friday 10 suspected rebels planning large-scale attacks on Election Day in northern Samangan and southern Helmand provinces, officials said.
Mohammad Ikram Bekzad, the Samangan police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News security officials detained six saboteurs with a huge quantity of arms and ammunitions in Hazrat Sultan district. The detainees, he alleged, planned to disrupt Saturday’s elections.
Similarly, security personnel arrested four persons who were planning attacks on polling stations in Helmand province, said Brig. Gen. Mohammad Nasim Sangin, the commander of 215th Military Corps.
Two motorcycles and ammunition were recovered from the detained men, he told journalists, saying security had been enhanced to ensure peaceful elections.
