LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Saturday received 16 complaints against local warlords and polling staff in southern Helmand province.
IECC Director Rahim Gul Alikhel told Pajhwok Afghan News the complaints had been lodged against a Wolesi Jirga employees. All complaints were being investigated, he added.
“We are assessing the complaints from various angles as most of them are about election rigging and fraud,” he noted. The complaints have to be registered within 48 hours of voting.
IEC Deputy Director Khalid said that objections against his department’s employees were untrue because common people had no knowledge about ballot.
The voting process was held throughout Helmand despite rocket attacks on Lashkargah, the capital of the province. However, insurgent fire caused no casualty.
