KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Saturday said security forces shot dead two would-be suicide bombers in southern Ghazni and southeastern Khost provinces before the pair could reach their targets.
In a statement, the MoI said a suicide attacker was killed in the afternoon in Waghiz district of southern Ghazni province. The bomber was forcing his way to target a police check post but on duty police officers gunned him down soon after recognizing him.
Another would-be bomber was trying to target a polling station in Zazai Maidan district of Khost province. He was killed by police before he hit his intended target.
Brig. Gen. Azizullah, district police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the suicide bomber was forcing his way inside the polling site. No one was hurt in the explosion, he added.
According to another report, a tribal elder was shot dead by militants in Arghandab district of southern Zabul province. The district chief said insurgents attacked a polling station in Angorak locality which resulted in the killing of the elder.
