KABUL (Pajhwok): As voting in the historic democratic elections continued, the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) said on Saturday it had formally received 200 complaints so far.

The voting to choose a new president and provincial council members began across the country at 7am and will close at 4pm.

IECC member and spokesman Nader Mohseni told reporters in Kabul so far 200 complaints had been registered at Independent Election Commission (IEC) offices in Kabul and provinces as of 11am today.

He said there were 20 complaints registered in Kabul, saying the objections were against presidential and provincial council candidates regarding law violations and fraud.

He said the IECC and the IEC a day earlier signed an agreement binding the latter to distribute special farms to people for registering their complaints.

Mohseni said they would be looking into all complaints, but such objections should be provided with pictures and videos as evidence for the sake of their validity.

The people could register their complaints against candidates, election observers and officials, he said, adding the outcome of their investigation into the complaints would be announced next month.

He also confirmed receiving hundreds of phone calls sharing information with the commission regarding irregularities.

In case of any irregularities and fraud, voters could contact the IECC through phone number 0729804851, Mohseni said, adding complaints could be registered within 48 hours after the voting had ended.
