MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Local officials in northern Faryab province on Saturday said 47 electoral sites remained closed, while a clash with Taliban was ongoing in Dawlatabad district.

Earlier, they had said 30 of the 234 sites across the province would remain closed due to security threats. But Governor Mohammadullah Batash said currently 47 sites remained closed.

Most of the closed sites are situated in Ghormach and Dawlatabad districts, according to the governor, who told Pajhwok Afghan News people were flocking to electoral sites.

Saifullah, a tribal elder from Ghormach, said four of the 22 sites in the district remained open and the rest have been closed due to insurgent activities.
