FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Eight militants and two policemen were killed on Saturday during a clash in western Farah province, where three civilians were injured in a mortar fire, officials and residents said.

The eight rebels were killed after they stormed a public order police post in Ganjabad area of the Bala Balok district at 9am, the 207th Zafar Military Corps spokesman said.

Mohammad Hanif Rezayee told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash that also left five attackers and one policeman wounded continued until 11am, he said.

However, Civil Hospital Director Dr Abdul Hakim Rassouli confirmed receiving two dead policemen.

Separately, a man and two children were wounded by a mortar shell allegedly fired by Afghan forces in Shiwan area of Bala Balok district on Saturday noon.

A resident of the area, Abdur Rauf, said the man was seriously wounded and the children sustained slight injuries in the incident. The wounded had been shifted to a hospital.

But Rezayee and Farah police spokesman denied Afghan forces had fired the rocket in Shiwan area.
