KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Three people, including an election worker, were killed on Sunday when the vehicle they were travelling in struck a roadside bomb in northern Kunduz province.

The pick-up carrying ballot boxes hit the explosive device in the Larkhabi area of Khanabad district at 11.00am, the town’s administrative chief said, blaming the incident on the Taliban.

Hayatullah Amiri told Pajhwok Afghan News the dead included an election worker, a policeman and the driver. Eight ballot boxes that were being shifted from Khanabad to Kunduz City were damaged.

Amir Hamza Ahmadzai, the Independent Election Commission head for Kunduz, confirmed the explosion. He said ballot boxes were being shifted from insecure areas to the provincial capital.
