KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Sunday said it had registered so far 1,269 complaints regarding Saturday’s elections.

IECC spokesman Nader Mohseni told reporters in Kabul that 1,107 of the complaints were received over the telephone and 162 objections were recorded by IECC staff at polling sites.

Official registration of electoral complaints would begin tomorrow (Monday) and continue until April 28, Mohseni said, adding they would simultaneously review complaints until May 7.

He asked people to register complaints at IECC offices within 48 hours of the Election Day. Mohseni said major complaints were about shortage of ballot papers, against Independent Election Commission (IEC) staff.

Other complaints were about voting by underage individuals, stuffing ballot boxes by irresponsible people, use of fake voter cards in some areas and having more than one voter card.

People had complained about a lack of complaint farms, counting of votes before official announcement and interference by government officers, he said.

Mohseni said invalid voter cards would be filtered out and declared null and void during the process of counting votes.
