As a result of unprecedented efforts by Afghan authorities, the voting went successfully despite a rise in terrorist activities in past months and repeated threats to undermine the process, said the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a statement released by the Russian embassy here, the ministry noted the relatively high turnout of voters. “Russia attentively followed the election process in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.”
On the eve of the landmark presidential and provincial polls, a delegation of Russian observers arrived in Kabul, the ministry said, awaiting official information regarding the results.
It promised continued cooperation with the Afghan authorities on a wide range of issues of common concern, including terrorism and drug-related crimes.
