MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): A photography exhibition of ancient minarets of southern Ghazni province was inaugurated on Tuesday in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province.
The exhibition showcasing dozens of pictures of historic minarets has been organised by a union of artistes in Balkh with financial support from the US Consulate at the Mediothek Office.
Mohammad Sabir Naqshbandi, who heads the union, said they had put on display 25 photographs of historic minarets of Ghazni and authentic historic photos at the show.
He said the idea to arrange the exhibition derived from the celebration of Ghazni City as the Asian Capital of Islamic Civilisation.
Naqshbandi said Balkh residents who had not yet visited Ghazni would learn about the province history with the help of those photos.
A large number of civil society activists and university students visited the Mediothek Office and evinced a keen interest in the photos.
A visitor, Ahmad Ludin, told Pajhwok he had never been to Ghazni City, but his wish to travel there increased after the city was celebrated as the Asian Capital of Islamic Culture. He welcomed the exhibition that helped him learn many things about Ghazni.
Balkh Information and Culture Director Saleh Mohammad Khaliq said the photo exhibition narrated tales of the past glory of the Afghans.
He said such exhibitions encouraged the youth to make efforts at reviving the nation’s past glory among the comity of nations through education and culture.
Naqshbadi said the same exhibition would be opened tomorrow at the Hazrat Ali (RAW) Shrine for two weeks.
