MAHMOOD RAQI (Pajhwok): Seven militants were killed and 10 others detained in central Kapisa province on Wednesday, an official of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said.
Lt. Col. Humayun Rashidi, provincial police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents were killed in the Ghain Dara area of Nijrab district in a joint Afghan National Army (ANA) and US Special Forces’ operation.
Sana Gul, a notorious Taliban commander, was among the detained militants, he added. However, a tribal elder claimed seven of the detainees were civilians.
The operation was launched to thwart a planned attack on ANA convoys in the Pachaghan valley of the district. Rashidi said security forces also seized weapons and explosives.
Lutfullah Zakiri, another tribal elder, confirmed the killing of seven rebels but alleged the detained individuals were civilians. Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
