JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Border police have recovered 19 weapons from a bus part of a friendship bus service between Afghanistan after it crossed the border into eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Saturday.
The bus part of the “Pak-Afghan Friendship Bus Service” was searched after it crossed the Torkham border into Nangarhar a day earlier, said Col. Mohammad Ayub Hussainkhel, the border police’s fourth battalion commander in Torkham.
He said the weapons recovered included 17 pistols, one AK-47 assault rifle and another gun and three Afghans had been arrested in connection with the arms, which were handed over to the police headquarters in Jalalabad on Saturday.
The bus service between Peshawar, the capital of Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and Jalalabad has been launched a few years ago.
Another official at the dry port said border police and customs officials jointly searched the bus and recovered the weapons.
