GHAZNI CITY/MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Ten militants and two civilians have been killed during separate incidents of violence in northwestern Faryab and southern Ghazni provinces, officials said on Saturday.
The 10 militants were killed after they attacked an Afghan Local Police (ALP) post in the Gilan district of Ghazni last night, the district chief, Mahboobullah Sabawoon, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The dead militants included a commander identified as Nasrat, he said, adding an ALP member lost to the clash.
In Faryab, a civilian was killed and two others injured last night when unknown gunmen opened fire at a passenger vehicle in Khwaja Musa area of Khwaja Sabzposh district, said Abdul Qadir Qaderi, the town’s administrative head.
Six other passengers in the vehicle managed to flee the gun attack, the motive behind which is yet to be ascertained, the official said.
But a resident of the area, wishing anonymity, said the passenger killed was an ALP commander.
In the provincial capital Maimana, a rickshaw driver was found beheaded on Saturday morning, said provincial police chief Col. Mohammad Naeem Andrabi.
He said the driver had been missing since Friday night and his body was found this morning. He suspected personal enmity behind the beheading.
