Success lies in unity, Karzai tells Afghans

KABUL was home to all Afghans and their success lied in unity.

President Karzai told this to representatives of the youth coming all the way from Kandahar, Zabul, Paktia, Ghazni and Kabul provinces, said a statement from the Presidential Palace, where the meeting held.

The youth briefed the president about their political, social and cultural activities and congratulated the people of Afghanistan on the peaceful conduct of last weekend’s landmark presidential and provincial council polls, the statement said.

The historic elections had been a success, thanks to efforts and leadership of President Karzai, it quoted the youth as saying.

They praised Karzai for rebuilding Afghanistan and developing its various sectors during his decade-long stay in office. The youth representatives hoped the next government would be able to preserve the past gains and further develop them.      

In his address to the youth, President Karzai said they were Afghanistan’s future and their hands were needed in rebuilding and stabilising the country, after decades of wars and bloodshed.

“This country will be built and stabilised with your hands and determination.” Karzai said Afghanistan was home to all Afghans and their success lied in their unity.
