Karzai meets Putin’s special envoy
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Hamid Karzai, who met with Russia’s special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Zamir Kablov at the Presidential Palace, said Russia had an important role in the region and its political and economic power impacted regional development.
Karzai and Kablov discussed bilateral ties and cooperation between Afghanistan and Russia as well as regional issues, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.
Kablov extended Karzai best wishes on behalf of Russian president Valdimir Putin, who thanked him for Afghanistan’s independent stance on recent developments in Crimea, a former Ukrianian province.
The Russian federation envoy pledged his country’s continued economic and military cooperation with Afghanistan.
President Karzai said the next Afghan president and government would maintain close and friendly relations between the two countries and would extend the ties further.
