US condemns hospital shooting
WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): The United States on Thursday condemned a gun attack that left three Americans dead at a children’s hospital in Kabul.
A police guard shot dead the American citizens when they were entering the CURE-run hospital west of Kabul on Thursday. The guard was shot injured by an Afghan police and was detained and provided medical care inside the same hospital.
“The United States condemns the attack in Kabul that killed three Americans working to provide health care to Afghans,” National Security Council spokesperson at the White House.
Caitlin Hayden said: “Any attack on civilians at a hospital is despicable and cowardly. We send our deepest condolences to the families of all those killed and injured.”
The US, she said, continues to strongly support those in Afghanistan who abhor this violence and are working to build a peaceful, prosperous future for themselves.
“We remain proud of all Americans serving in Afghanistan, working shoulder-to-shoulder with Afghan partners toward our shared goal of a sovereign, stable, secure, and democratic Afghanistan,” Hayden added.
