Drowned student’s body found hours before his nikah
FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): A 20-year-old student drowned in the Farah River and his body was fished out an hour later in western Farah province on Friday, an official said on Saturday, the day the 20-year-old’s nikah was due.
Mohammad Arif, a student at the Teacher Training Center in Farah City, was swimming with friends in the river on Friday when drowned, Deputy Governor Mohammad Younus Rassouli told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The student was a resident of Darabad Sufla area of Farah City and his body was retrieved with the help of divers an hour later he had drowned, he said.
Mohammad Ibrahim, a distressed relative of the deceased, said Arif was all set to tie the knot on Saturday, but died hours before that amid ongoing preparations for his marriage at home.
The deputy governor said the body of another man drowned last week was fished out four days later he had drowned. The deceased was a resident of Rigi village of Farah city.
The Farah River originates in the Band-i-Bayan Range and flows for 560 kilometres to Helmand swamps on the Afghanistan-Iran border. The town of Farah is located on the river.
