IEC asked to publish results online per station
KABUL (Pajhwok): The EU Election Assessment Team (EU EAT), welcoming the preliminary results, on Sunday said it invited the Independent Election Commission (IEC) to increase transparency and publish online all preliminary results per polling station.
“This will enable all stakeholders including voters and candidates to fully evaluate the presidential election at that stage,” Thijs Berman, the EU EAT chief observer, said in a statement.
He said the EU team would remain in Afghanistan until the electoral process including a second round ended and would continue assessing the compliance of the elections with the Afghan legislation and with international standards.
The 16-member EU Election Assessment Team, led by Thijs, consists of international experts from 13 European countries and has been in Kabul since March 15.
