PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Three militants were killed and 18 others, including their commander, detained after a fierce gun battle with Afghan security forces in central Logar province on Monday, an official said.
Col. Abdul Wali Tofan Tarki, deputy provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that a fierce clash occurred between security forces and rebels in Kaji area at around 10:00am on the outskirts of Pul-i-Alm, the provincial capital.
“A police patrolling vehicle came under militants fire, which followed by fire fight. Three militants were killed on the spot while 18 others, including Mullah commander, have been arrested,” Tarki added.
The detained insurgents were being interrogated, he said, adding that police and civilians remained unhurt during the three-hour long clash.
Gulab Jan, a local of the area, said fierce fight between Afghan security forces and militants forced people to stay in their homes for hours.
Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
