PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Due to a lack of interest by the Ministry of Public Health, people in remote areas of central Logar province have been deprived of basic healthcare facilities, the governor complained on Monday.
Talking to Pajhwok Afghan News during an exclusive chat, Niaz Mohammad Amiri said the provincial Public Health Department had been unable to deliver services to the people despite foreign assistance.
“People living in far-flung areas, specifically security forces, have no access to health services,” he informed.
Amiri said he had his grievances conveyed to the authorities in Kabul about problems Logar faced with regard to healthcare facilities.
Hamidullah, a resident of Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, said: “I got injured in a traffic accident but received no proper treatment when I was shifted to the provincial public sector hospital.”
Habibullah, a resident of Charkh district, said female patients in remote villages faced immense problems in the absence of female doctors.
But Dr. Mohammad Zarif Naibkhel, Logar Public Health Director, said: “We have a 52-bed hospital in Pul-i-Alam, a 40-bed hospital in Baraki Barak district, a 20-bed hospital in Mohammad Agha district in addition to 45 health clinics in the province.”
He said work on a 300-bed hospital funded by Pakistan was in progress and would be completed soon.
