Hagel lauds British soldiers’ contribution

WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel on Monday offered his deepest condolences to the families of the five British service members who lost their lives in Afghanistan on Saturday.

“Americans deeply appreciate the service and sacrifices of the British armed forces, which have fought side by side with American service members and other coalition partners over the past 12 years,” Hagel said in a statement.

He added: “Our continued sacrifices to defend our shared interests and values testify to the unbreakable bonds that endure between our two great nations. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families.”
