PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The Pul-i-Khumri mayor has been detained on charges of hatching a plot to kill the head of the consultative council of the Baghlan municipality.
More than a week ago, the council head, Haji Noor Aqa, was targeted by a magnetic bomb attached to his car. He lost one of his legs in the explosion and accused Mayor Abdullah Haris of plotting to kill him.
He was attacked for opposing the mayor’s plan for development projects in different areas, Aqa alleged, claiming that he had ample proof that the mayor was behind the plot to assassinate him.
Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the mayor had been detained. But Haris said he had been released and continued his job.
Police spokesman Javed Basharat confirmed Haris had been released but was under investigation.
