SHARAN (Pajhwok): Afghan security forces on Friday impounded an explosives-laden car in the Sar Rawza district of southeastern Paktika province, an official said.
Mukhlis Afghan, the governor’s spokesman, said the Afghan National Army (ANA) and police seized the vehicle near Paraw locality on the Sharan-Orgun highway.
Around nine tonnes of ammonium nitrate was placed under wood inside the car, he said, adding the security forces also recovered suicide vests and other materials.
Two people said were detained in connection with the explosives smuggling. In initial interrogation, the detainees said they had brought the car from the other side of the border and were on their way to Kabul.
Most probably, Afghan said, the explosives were to be used to disrupt the second round of presidential elections.
