JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The Afghan Women’s Network (AWN) said on Saturday women had suffered equally during the war and their role in restoration of peace was of paramount importance.

Khan Aqa Gharmal expressed the views at a gathering on the importance of women’s role in peace building. The event was attended by women activists, members of civil society and prominent national figures.

Mohammad Hanif Gardiwal, deputy governor of eastern Nangarhar province, said women had been facing problems of different nature throughout their life.

Women role in peace process could yield better outcome, he added.

Sabrina Hameedi, head of the Afghanistan Independent Human Right Commission (AIHRC) in east, said women could play a significant role to ensure peace and stability in the society.

She said women could help extinguish flames of war through awareness drive they should start from their homes.
