KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Kingdom on Sunday expressed its readiness to provide assistance to victims of the deadly landslide in Badakhshan province.

International Development Secretary Justine Greening said: “Our recent £10 million support to the UN’s Common Humanitarian Fund will ensure additional relief supplies can be delivered as required.”

While sending her deepest sympathies to those affected, she said a full picture of the remote disaster was still emerging, but it was clear there had been a significant loss of life and many people were in need of emergency relief.

“Our priority is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the survivors,” she said, adding: “UN, Red Crescent and other response teams are already on the ground and are working in extremely difficult conditions to provide emergency relief. I pay tribute to their brave efforts.”
