MAIMANA (Pajhwok): At least eight militants have been killed and 10 others wounded during a clash in the Dawlatabad district of northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Tuesday.
The firefight took place on Monday night after the militants stormed an Afghan Local Police (ALP) post in the district, provincial police chief, Brig Gen Toryalai Abdyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the corpses of three militants were taken to the district centre and placed in the main square to serve as a lesson for others.
Syed Abdul Salam Nazhat, the district chief, said ALP members were supported by other Afghan security forces during the clash. Security forces suffered no casualties during the fight lasting three hours.
A provincial council candidate, Abdul Ahad said: “We are at the central intersection, where corpses of the militants have been hung.”
But Human Rights Director Syed Hafizullah Fitrat criticised the action and said abusing dead bodies was unacceptable.
