FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Hundreds of Pashto poets took part in an annual mushaira (poetry recitation) in western Farah province, participants said on Friday.
Culturists, writers and government officials also participated in the overnight event, organised by the Hewad Adabi Maraka in Farah City, the provincial capital.
At the event titled Anab Gul (Jujube Flower), poets stressed the need for unity among Afghans, national sovereignty, restoration of peace and eradication of corruption.
Organiser Abdul Wadood Himmat said Anab was a grape-sized fruit abundantly produced in Farah. The fruit is believed to cure a number of ailments.
Another poet Mohammad Rahim Akhlaqyar hailed the mushaira as a good opportunity to reflect on a variety of social issues. Farah literati were faced with severe economic constraints, he said, urging the government to help literary figures.
